Climbing Trees

Good thing it's good music.

It's the second Friday in this house we live in here in the AIM compound. It's the second Friday that, at 8pm, the LOUD music started blaring from some establishment nearby, music sung live by a deep voiced singer who does quite a fair impression of Johnny Cash and Neil Diamond, among others. It reminds me of afternoons at home when my mom would listen to 1250 CHSM. I didnt know until much later in life that they actually did play pretty good tunes on that station. Friday nights from 8pm-12am, however, isnt the time of day i'd prefer to hear "Sweeeeet Caroliiiiiinnnne..." or "Ring of Fire", but then again i could be turning into an old foge.

This evening we ordered in pizza and, although i continue to hold Madagascar up as my favourite African country (even if it isnt African), the pizza is better here, i have to admit. We had a family night of pizza, pop and The Lion King.

This morning Judah and i went to the MAF compound to attend the MAF Women's meeting, which happens every Friday morning for the purpose of news sharing and prayer. During the chatting i received a message from another Mrs. Plett who happens to be living in Nairobi, inviting us and another Mennonite family over for Good Friday lunch. A "Traditional Meal" is what the phone text said. I read the message with some aloof until i got to the name at the bottom, and i almost broke down in tears. I think i dont really realize how homesick i am until i am faced with something that is so homey, like an invitation to a Mennonite home for a Mennonite Easter meal. I am so thankful.

YesterdayJosh and I and Judah spent the evening climbing the big tree on our compound. It seems as though Judah has mastered a new challenge and has now learned to climb higher than he ever did in the old litchee tree in our yard in Madagascar. It freaks me out a bit, i must admit. But Josh assures me that he wont fall. We were all up in the tree last evening when Grandma Plett called, so we called it a day and went in to talk on Skype.
